Tracking Amazon (And Other) Retailers' Prices For Major Savings
Welcome to Saving Money with Andrew!
Every few months, I make a larger-ticket purchase, usually on Amazon. Maybe a Kindle, or a new iPad, or something else in the $150-500 range.
These are golden opportunities to save money, because prices fluctuate constantly, particularly on Amazon. Take a look at this chart of the price of an iPad Mini in the past year:
In 12 months, the price has bounced between $399 to $469, briefly hitting $379 once. Rather than rechecking the price yourself, set free alerts on CamelCamelCamel for any Amazon item and be automatically notified when an item falls below a certain price.[1] I’ve used this twice in the past year, saving over $100 by grabbing them when they fleetingly fell below my buy price.
And, if you’d prefer to not use a separate website. Chrome has recently added price tracking within the browser by clicking the “Track Price” icon on the right side of the address bar (see screenshot below). You can then enable email notifications of price changes by following the instructions here.
