Don't Pay Full Price For A Kindle (Or Any Other Amazon Device)
Welcome to Saving Money with Andrew!
I recently came across Camille Hartsell’s terrific post about her child’s tech setup, and was inspired to buy my older son a Kindle Paperwhite Kids edition. At $170, however, it’s a bit expensive for an e-reader.
But, I was very pleased to see that Amazon offers a terrific deal on trade-ins for new Amazon product. If you trade in anything through the Amazon Trade-In Center, you receive a small amount in an Amazon gift card, but also receive a 20% coupon toward the purchase of your next Amazon device (such as a Kindle, Echo, Ring, or Eero product).[1]
This is true even if you trade in a very old Amazon product, and leads to some great savings opportunities. For example, we have a very old Amazon Fire tablet that has sat in our closet for years and has zero resale value. But with this program, we can get a $5 gift card and use the 20% off for a $34 savings on a new Kindle Paperwhite. This discount even works on the most expensive Amazon devices, meaning that even trading in a very old product for a $5 gift card can also yield a coupon worth $50 or more in savings. Make sure to combine this with using your Amazon Prime Visa for an additional 5% in rewards.
And if you don’t have an old Amazon product, you can buy an old device and trade it in. I’ve seen plenty of old trade-in eligible (make sure to check the trade-in center first to confirm the model is on their list) Amazon Echo devices selling for $5 or less on eBay.
And now…Andrew’s pick(s) of the week:

Brick-Filled Boxes. Bogus Receipts. Retailers Battle Fraudulent Returns.
No, That’s Not Taylor Swift Peddling Le Creuset Cookware
One of the best commercials I’ve ever seen
I hope this has been helpful. If you liked it, please share it on social media! Also, please send me your feedback, requests, and success stories.
[1] Under the offer terms, this is limited to one 20% off coupon on a trade-in between 1/1/24 and 4/1/24.
