Saving Money on SiriusXM Radio
Welcome to Saving Money with Andrew!
Despite subscribing to Spotify and having access to basically every song, I still really like Sirius satellite radio, particularly in the car where it’s fun to flip through the (mostly ad-free) stations and have no idea what’s coming up next.
But Sirius can be expensive, with rates of up to ~$29/month for their Platinum package. While the first three months are free (with many new cars) or only $1/month, the prices increase quickly once your promo offer ends.
And that’s why you should make sure you always use a promotional offer. For the first 12 months, I used a $5/month promotion for new users. Shortly before my promotion expired almost a year later, here’s what I did:
Logged into my Sirius account
Clicked on “Need Help” in the bottom right corner to start an online chat with the virtual agent
Explained that I would like to cancel my service, and when asked why, I explained that my promotional rate was expiring
Immediately, the agent offered me a one-year promotion at $6.99/month if I renewed, which I accepted.
I suspect that if I had pushed harder, I could have gotten a better promo, but I also didn’t really want to cancel, and $6.99/month was much better than the ~$23/month I was going to have to pay when my promo expired. Immediately afterward, I set a reminder for slightly less than a year later (info on my reminder system here) to repeat the process.[1]
And now, Andrew’s pick(s) of the week:
He Skipped College to Become a Repairman. He’s On His Way to $175,000 a Year.
There’s a LeBron of Table Tennis. His Name Is Lebrun.
Wisconsin Voters Seethe Over Out-of-Control Housing Prices
I hope this has been helpful. If you liked it, please share it on social media! Also, please send me your feedback, requests, and success stories.
[1] There is supposedly a $99 for 3 year deal, available only for model year 2019 and older vehicles (more info here). Unfortunately our car is newer, but this seems like a great deal.
