Reader Responses And Some Great Picks
Welcome to Saving Money with Andrew!
First, some great reader feedback to Should You Become A "Serial Home Remodeler"?:
An eagle-eyed reader pointed out that while the generous new 30% credit for home energy improvements goes into effect next year, the separate 30% credit for solar panels (and a few other items) is retroactive to January 1st of this year and runs through 2032.
We passed on solar panels recently, but with a 30% credit and prices falling, they may be too great a deal to pass up.[1] I’m very excited about the possibility of powering our home with solar during the day, and charging our EV with cheap energy from the grid at night.
Another reader sent along a great article about the environmental impact of solar panels, discussing the challenges California is facing with disposing of/recycling old panels. Hopefully recyclers will figure out efficient ways to get value from old systems over time.
And now, Andrew’s pick(s) of the week:
I am a big fan of the unbelievably talented Jacob Collier, and this recent live performance of his hit “All I Need” from his Grammy-nominated Djesse Vol. 3 is great:
Next, a trend right out of a dystopian novel: The Rise of the Worker Productivity Score. Do any readers work at a place like this?
Also, are Americans Breaking Up With Their Work Friends?
And, The Rise and Fall of Margarine. As someone who had mostly margarine for many years and has now joined team butter…there is no comparison. Kind of shocked that margarine is still almost as popular as butter.
Finally, tragic news as children’s musician Morgan Taylor, better known as the Grammy-nominated Gustafer Yellowgold, passed away suddenly at 52. We saw him with our older son once and he was really creative, interesting, and fun:
