Last week, a reader sent me a thoughtful email with a great money-saving tip: checking to see if we had any unclaimed property. I wrote about this in 2020, but I hadn’t looked since then. A few clicks on our state’s website (find your state here) and I found an uncashed medical refund check sent to our old address. It’s probably just for an overpaid copay ($30), but still a nice small win.

Almost as fun as looking for your own unclaimed property? Typing in the names of friends and relatives and looking to see if they have any. But watch out, it’s not easy to drop unclaimed property into a casual conversation without looking like a weirdo (or an SMwA reader)!
