Cable Bill Adventures - Success Stories!
Three Cable/Telephone Bill Success Stories, Average Savings $456/year. You Can Do It!
Welcome to Saving Money with Andrew!
Several posts ago, we talked about how to Cut Your Cable Bill by as much as $600/year in less than 30 minutes of work. If you haven’t done it yet, I urge you to try it out (and let me know how it goes!). This is one of my favorite tips, and arguably the most lucrative on a savings-to-time basis. Here are a few success stories so far:[1]
Cable Company “Triple-Play” (TV/Internet/Phone) - previous rate $225/month, went down to lower TV package tier (manually adding back any desired premium channels), requested promotion from retention department, new bill $168/month with 12 month promotional rate
Major Telecom Company “Double-Play” (TV + Internet) - previous rate $149/month, downgraded to lower TV package tier (giving up a handful of unused channels), requested promotion from cancellation department, new bill $116/month with 24 month promotional rate
Cable Company Small Business Plan (Internet + Two Phone Lines) - previous rate $159/month, cancelled unused second phone line that had been used as a fax line to reduce rate to $112/month, requested promotion from retention department, new bill $88/month with 12 month promotional rate
Two tips:
Be polite but firm. In each case, the requester asked politely for the cancellation/retention department, explained that their bill was getting too high, and asked if there was a promotional rate available if they stayed with their current provider.
Don’t forget to set a reminder for when your promotional rate expires! I have a recurring calendar invite/reminder set annually to call my cable provider and make sure my promotional rate is still active.
I hope this has been helpful. If you liked it, please share it with a friend! Also, please send me your feedback, requests, and success stories.
